Tooling Planning and Purchasing Specialist

Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Tooling Planning and Purchasing Specialist to ensure the timely availability of tooling at optimal cost. This role plays a critical part in supporting production by managing tooling demand, supplier relationships, and ERP/MRP data accuracy, while minimizing downtime related to tooling availability.
Location: In-person, Kentwood MI 49512
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Pay Range: $24.00 – $26.00 per hour (Based on experience)
Key Responsibilities
Negotiate pricing and lead times with tooling suppliers.
Determine whether tooling should be outsourced or produced in-house based on cost, lead time, and availability.
Issue purchase orders and internal production orders for tooling.
Maintain and optimize tooling inventory, including reuse of tools from discontinued parts.
Ensure tooling database accuracy, including traceability of modifications and version control.
Communicate tooling updates with Engineering and confirm drawing revisions.
Collaborate with management to define tooling backup levels for production needs.
Manage ERP system accuracy and ensure compliance with established procedures and tools (e.g., barcode scanners).
Ensure all tooling definitions are properly maintained within the ERP system.
Provide operational support in the tool room as needed.
Environmental & Safety Responsibilities
Promote efficient use of tooling and materials.
Follow all safety and risk prevention guidelines.
Properly use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ensure team compliance with safety requirements and PPE usage.
Identify and recommend training opportunities for tooling personnel.
Stop any activity that poses a risk to employees or equipment.
Qualifications
Technical education, preferably in Engineering or a related field.
CAD design experience required.
Hands-on experience with tooling machinery (e.g., grinders, lathes).
Experience Requirements
4–5 years of experience across relevant areas, including tooling design or production.
Minimum of 5 years of tool room experience in design and/or production.
